Roundup!

Roundup! is a cadence that has been used as a 'mass drumline' cadence for bringing out the drum majors for awards at one of Southern California's most popular marching band competitions. This is written for snares, tenors, basses (for 5, but easily adjustable) and cymbals. It is very playable, and can be played by as many drummers as you want!  (Beginning-Intermediate)

Tenor Cadence

Tenor Cadence is for tenor drummers only.  Use it as a cadence, a section jam, or even solo material. It contains extended tenor licks (including swirl fives!) and tenor grooves (off the rim, off the spocker, etc.) and some inspiration from SCV's classic ‘tenor beat.' (Intermediate-Advanced)

Escape Route

Escape Route is a percussion ensemble in 8 parts for timpani and auxiliary percussion.  This fast-paced piece features two players on a standard set of four timpani, where one timpanist plays on the top two drums, while the other timpanist plays on the bottom two drums, ideally on opposite sides of a stage! (Intermediate)

ESCAPE ROUTE

Prokofiev 'Classical' Symphony Finale

This is the final movement of Prokofiev's 'Classical' Symphony.  An energetic and fast-paced movement, it adapts very well to percussion ensemble, and has even been arranged and played by DCI front ensembles competing for the I & E championship.  This particular arrangement is for 8 parts:  Xylophone, Bells, 2 Vibraphones, 3 Marimbas, and Timpani.  It makes a great addition to any percussion ensemble concert, and is an exciting introduction to orchestral repertoire that has been adapted for percussion ensemble.

Timp for Two

Timp for Two is a duet that utilizes the four standard size timpani with one player on the top two timpani, and another player on the bottom two timpani, on opposite sides of the stage! It was originally intended as a piece to introduce beginning percussionists who could already achieve some basics on other instruments to the timpani.  It allows players to develop basic touch and technique at 6 different dynamic levels, explore 3 extended techniques for timpani, and refine their listening skills by playing split parts (both rhythmically and dynamically) in the context of a duet. (Beginning-Intermediate)

Tchaikovsky 4 Finale Opening

This arrangement of the exciting first 1:30 of the Finale of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 lends itself very well to percussion ensemble!  It contains fast runs and is a great way to introduce and engage your percussionists in orchestral music that is both musical and energetic!  It is arranged for bells, xylo, vibes, 2 marimbas, timpani, cymbals, bass drum, and triangle.
